Sharing is caring!

We all have that one cherished food that effortlessly transports us back to the innocence of childhood. For many, it’s the joy of baking cakes or crafting candies during the holiday season. Personally, indulging in the delightful Bisquick Sausage & Cheese biscuits never fails to evoke some of my fondest memories from childhood.

During my childhood, the mother of one of my closest friends regularly prepared this recipe. After sharing it with my mother, she too began making it. I often grabbed this meal and rushed out the door—it’s the ideal on-the-go breakfast option. This breakfast dish is incredibly simple to prepare!

Why you’ll love this Bisquick Sausage and Cheese Biscuits

You are going to love this Sausage Cheese Biscuits recipe because it is so simple and easy to make. If you have ever had Bisquick Sausage Balls, this recipe is very similar to that, but more in a biscuit form rather than the Sausage balls which do not rise much.

These Cheddar Sausage Biscuits are a hearty meal that makes a great grab-and-go breakfast. I like to make them the night before, and then pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds before heading out the door. You have an easy on-the-go meal that is sure to please the palate. These are even kid-friendly as well.

What does this Bisquick Sausage and Cheese Biscuits taste like?

As mentioned earlier, these bear a resemblance to sausage balls for those familiar with them. The key distinction lies in the texture—these biscuits are airier, resembling traditional biscuits, as opposed to the denseness of sausage balls.

Unlike the three-ingredient Sausage balls that omit milk, the Bisquick Sausage & Cheese Biscuits recipe incorporates milk, contributing to a fluffier rise.

This image is a closeup view of what the texture and inside of the sausage and cheese biscuits look like.

The flavor profile is a delightful fusion of seasoned pork sausage, accented by savory notes from sage, and the sharp richness of cheddar cheese. The result is a savory, cheesy, and subtly spiced treat, with the bonus of a fluffy biscuit-like texture.

How To Make Bisquick Sausage & Cheese Biscuits

Whipping up a batch of Bisquick Sausage & Cheese Biscuits is a delightful journey into the world of savory indulgence. The process is as simple as it is rewarding

Step-by-step Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Start by using the skillet to brown the breakfast sausage. Use the mix and chop or a wooden spoon to break up the pork sausage and continue to stir until the meat has browned. Drain and set aside to cool.
  • Next, grate the cheddar cheese and place aside.

Mixing the ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, add in the bisquick baking mix and stir in the milk. Mix until the dough starts to form.
  • Next, use your hands to finish mixing until the ingredients have come together to form a dough ball.
  • Add in the sausage crumbles and the grated Shredded Cheese.
  • Mix until all the ingredients have combined. Use your hands for this task.

Making the Biscuits

  • Turn the dough ball out onto the pastry mat or a lightly floured surface.
  • Using your hands, form a rectangle with the dough ball, and pat it down flat.
  • Next, use the rolling pin to roll out a rectangle roughly 1/2 inch to 1 inch thick.
  • Use a biscuit cutter or a cup with a sharp edge to cut the biscuits out.
  • Place the biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet

Baking the biscuits

  • Place the biscuits in the preheated oven.
  • Bake for 13 to 15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown.
  • Allow to cool then enjoy.

RECIPE NOTES

Make sure to buy block cheese and shred it yourself. Preshredded cheese has a coating to prevent sticking. This will affect the flavor of the biscuits. Avoid overmixing the biscuit dough, as excessive mixing can lead to a tougher texture. When cutting out the biscuits, refrain from twisting the cup or biscuit cutter as it passes through the dough. Twisting seals the edges, hindering the biscuits’ rise. Instead, apply firm, downward pressure in a straight motion to ensure optimal results.

Substitutions

  • You can substitute Almond Milk for regular milk if you do not wish to use regular milk.
  • Bisquick can be sustained in a ratio of 1:1 by adding 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder. Bisquick does contain Hydrogenated oil but the oil from the cheese and sausage should suffice for this.

Storage Tips

Store the Bisquick Sausage & Cheese Biscuits in an airtight container for up to 3 to 5 days in the refrigerator.

Freezing Instructions

These Sausage and Cheese biscuits are freezer-friendly. Store them in a freezer-safe container or a zip-lock bag designated for freezing. They can be frozen for up to 3 months. When ready to enjoy, thaw them out and then heat them in the microwave for 30 seconds for a delicious treat.

VARIATIONS

  • Add in extra milk and make drop biscuits.
  • Add in Jalapenos for a little added flavor and kick.

FAQs

Can I use pre-shredded cheese?

You can use store-bought shredded cheese but I would recommend against it. The pre-shredded cheese has a starch coating on it that can affect the taste and texture of this dish.

Can I use regular flour instead of Bisquick Baking Mix?

Yes, but you will need to add some additional ingredients. For a 1:1 ratio, you will need 1 cup of AP Flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Bisquick also has Hydrogenated Vegetable shorting, but in this recipe, because of the Breakfast sausage and cheese, I think both of those contain enough fat to make up for it without adding any additional fat.

What is Bisquick good for?

Bisquick is a self-rising mix that contains all the ingredients except for milk and eggs. You can use this mix to make pancakes, muffins, biscuits, and other breakfast or dinner casseroles.

Why are my biscuits falling apart?

There are several reasons such as overmixing the dough, overbaking, and not enough fat content.
