Unicoi Preserves | Product Review

Unicoi Preserves is a small batch mountain grown goodness fruit spread

Back in the summer of 2014, our family took our yearly vacation in Helen, Georgia. While there, we visited a state park called Unicoi State Park. Meanwhile, I had just gotten over back surgery and was told to do lots of walking. There was a waterfall that we wanted to see that was a moderate hike to get to. It was a great accomplishment for me and since then that park has a special place in my heart. Fast forward to this year, I came across a company with the same name as the park. Captain Steve’s Family Seafood Restaurant | Fort Mill, SC

Captain Steve’s Family Seafood where you will want to split a small plate

If you grew up in the south you probably have been to a fish camp. Fish camps have a fairly unique history behind them. Let’s cover a brief history behind the term fish camp. Back in the 1800’s, men would go fishing to provide food for their family. They would camp out along the banks of the river and sit and catch fish. The Loose Moose Cottage Concord NC

Great Wolf Lodge Concord, NC

Fancy buffet dining inside Great Wolf Lodge at The Loose Moose Cottage

I have, to be honest with you, I am not a big fan of buffets. Especially the franchise restaurants you go to like Golden Corral and Ryan’s, yeah not a fan of those. Most of the time the food is bland, and taste like it all came out of a can. What I am a fan of, though, is buffets at little country restaurants. The quality is better and the place is usually cleaner. Now on a recent overnight stay at Great Wolf Lodge (Click link for that post) in Concord, NC, we ate at a buffet restaurant. This is the review of The Loose Moose Cottage in Concord, NC.

Although it is still a commercialized restaurant, it is different than your Ryan’s and Golden Corrals.

The Loose Moose CottageThe Loose Moose Cottage is a buffet restaurant located inside Great Wolf Lodge. Although it is still a commercialized restaurant, it is different than your Ryan’s and Golden Corrals. The food is much better here at The Loose Moose Cottage. They serve a better quality of food also. The Loose Moose Cottage serves Breakfast and dinner. What makes it especially nice is the convenience of it. Since it is located within Great Wolf Lodge, you just walk over and eat. It is really that simple.

One of the best things that I had here was the baked ham.

The food was really good here. The only thing I really did not like on this occasion was the chocolate cake. It was pretty dry, almost like it had been sitting out for a while. One of the best things that I had here was the baked ham. It was to die for. Several people in my group also commented on it too. As stated above, the food seems to be a better quality here, that also means a higher price. I am not sure if the price was higher because of the convenience factor or not. This could also be the case.

Great Wolf Lodge can seem like a money pit while staying here. They have everything to entice your kids to want to spend money on. Once they get you in the door they have so many things to do and spend money on. I am sure there are other options as far as restaurants go that are close by. The food may be just as good as The Loose Moose Cottage but by the time you leave you could have just stayed in the house and enjoyed a world class buffet.

The Junction Landrum, SC

The Junction Landrum SC

The Junction is serving up a country style buffet that will leave you with a smile

Take a drive down South Carolina Scenic Highway 11 from Campobello, SC to Landrum SC and you will come to an intersection, a junction. Sitting on one of the corners is a rustic building with old Glory waving as you pass by. Stepping through the doors is like taking a time travel back to a simpler time when food was simple but good.  This is the restaurant review for The Junction in Landrum, SC.  Continue reading “The Junction Landrum, SC”

Mama’s Farmhouse Pigeon Forge, TN

Mama's Farmhouse
Flowers to brighten your day

Mama’s Farmhouse breakfast takes you back to simpler times

Growing up in the South, a traditional breakfast consisted of grits, eggs, bacon, and some type of bread. Most Southerners would have biscuits as their choice of bread if you asked them. We love our breakfast and consider it to be the most important meal of the day. Eating breakfast, especially Sunday breakfast, is almost like a holiday for Southerners. If asked, most Southerners would tell you that they love their mama or grandmama’s cooking. So it is no surprise to find a restaurant in the hills of the Smoky Mountains honoring their Mother. This is the review of Mama’s Farmhouse. Continue reading “Mama’s Farmhouse Pigeon Forge, TN”

Park Place Restaurant Pineville, NC

American, Greek-inspired comfort food at Park Place Restaurant.

A few months ago I was out with my family and we were in search of a place to eat for dinner. What we wanted was something quick and cheap, so we decided on Showmars in Pineville, NC. Meanwhile, we passed right by a diner that looked like a local establishment. It looked like a place I would love to try. That place was Park Place Restaurant in Pineville, NC.
