Mama’s Farmhouse breakfast takes you back to simpler times

Growing up in the South, a traditional breakfast consisted of grits, eggs, bacon, and some type of bread. Most Southerners would have biscuits as their choice of bread if you asked them.

We love our breakfast and consider it to be the most important meal of the day. Eating breakfast, especially Sunday breakfast, is almost like a holiday for Southerners. If asked, most Southerners would tell you that they love their mama or grandmama’s cooking. So it is no surprise to find a restaurant in the hills of the Smoky Mountains honoring their Mother.

Atmosphere at Mama’s Farmhouse

I enjoyed the atmosphere here at Mama’s Farmhouse. Everything from how the servers were dressed to the attention to the detail on the outside of the building. The owners put a lot of care and thought to make it resemble an old farm.

The restaurant itself is not a franchise, but it is not like your mom-and-pop kind of restaurant either. It is more of a small chain of restaurants. The owners of this restaurant own a few other restaurants in the area.

Similarly, it should be mentioned that they provided lots of support in terms of food and money for the firefighters who were battling wildfires in Gatlinburg, TN. I am sure they do not want the recognition but thought it was fitting to mention it. I like to support owners like this. It is the American way.

Family-style Restaurant

Mama’s Farmhouse is a country restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You pay one price and they have one menu with several things on the menu.

They bring a little bit of all of the food on the menu out to the table. We refer to this as family-style serving. It is all you can eat but you do not stand in line to get your food.

When you run out, just ask the waiter or waitress for more, and like magic, it appears on your table. This restaurant is similar to the Dan’l Boone Inn we reviewed last year in Boone, NC. They both are similar in style and the way the food is served.

The Food

Now on to the food. The food, for the most part, was pretty good. You can just tell the difference between food that was cooked from a mom-and-pop type place to a corporate-owned restaurant.

They start you out with these pinwheel pastries. I must say, they were excellent. Similarly, I loved the strawberry butter that comes out with them.

One of the things that I would say was lacking was the grits. You just do not mess up a Southerner’s grits. They were a little too thin for my liking and underseasoned. I like to cook my grits thick and creamy.

Of course, food is very subjective as some like their grits thin, but I particularly do not. Everything else was pretty much on par.

Comparison

If I had to compare this restaurant to one in the area, I would say it compares to the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant just up the road. We did enjoy our breakfast at Mama’s Farmhouse and will be back. Sometimes it is hard to find cons when doing a review so you have to be nitpicky.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Mama’s Farmhouse in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, is a culinary haven that effortlessly captures the essence of Southern hospitality and cuisine. From the moment you step through the door, you are welcomed with open arms and treated to a dining experience that feels like a warm embrace from Mama herself.
