D’Vash Date Nectar is sweet as molasses

Disclamier: D'vash contacted us to see if we would try their product. Our purpose at Southern Food Junkie is not to tell you a product is good or bad but simply to share with you a brand you may not have heard of before.

In recent years, there have been tons of new products that have come on the scene as sugar replacements. You have agave nectar, Stevia, and Splenda just to name a few.

Most of those have advantages and disadvantages. Whether it is a bad aftertaste, or lacking in nutrition that has turned you away. Now there is a new choice on the market called D’Vash Date Nectar. (now known as Date Syrup).

Dvash Date Syrup

What is Date Nectar?

To give you some history on Date Nectar, it has been used for centuries in Middle Eastern Countries. Some also believe that one of the references to honey mentioned in the bible is Date Nectar.

The scripture I am referring to is, “So I have come down to rescue them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey-the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Hebusties (Exodus 3:8, KJV).”

It is said that they were actually talking about date honey and not bee honey in this specific scripture. Other mentions of honey may have been speaking about actual bee honey.

What does it taste like?

The sample I received from D’Vash Date Nectar was packaged in straws. I have seen honey packaged this way in order to eat it as a snack.

Upon opening the straw you could smell the nectar. It has a strong molasses-like smell to it. When I tasted it, again, it has a molasses-like flavor. You still taste the date flavor in it too.

D’Vash Date Nectar does have a saltiness to it that you can taste, but it doesn’t overpower the sweetness. It was very good just to eat plain. Very sweet but not overly sweet.

What can you eat D’Vash Date Nectar On?

I tried it on some toast with peanut butter on it. The flavors married well with the peanut butter. I would like to try it as a pancake syrup too. I feel that would make an awesome syrup.

The next thing to do with D’Vash Date Nectar is to try it in a recipe. There are a few Southern recipes that I want to try but the one thing that comes to mind is Molasses cookies.

A few of my favorite foods to use D’Vash Date Syrup in oatmeal and to use as a sweetener in my coffee.

One time I made homemade ice cream with it and it was so good. I used Date Syrup to replace some of the sugar in the recipe. It reminded me of Chocolate Icecream.

Other products they make

Since coming out with Date Syrup, D’Vash has launched a few other products such as:

  • Granulated Date Sugar
  • Whole dates
  • Date Energy bars
  • Superfood Bites (my favorite)

Hello, found your site while looking for recipes using d'vash organic date nectar. I bought the 16 oz bottle on sale & I love dates so I figured the only ingredients is organic dates & I definitely can find a way to use it. Today I'm wanting to make caramel corn with it. Any suggestions? Have you used it in caramel or toffee sauces? Thanks for your help!!

I have not used it to make caramel corn but that sounds amazing. I did make Icecream with it one time. It was homemade. Look at my Strawberry ice cream recipe. I made it just like that but reduced the sugar at the beginning and then added a cup of date nectar when I started the churning process and took out the strawberries. It had a chocolate flavor to me. I really liked it. My cousin uses the date nectar on grilled chicken when she cooks it. She buys this all the time. You mentioned yours being really thick. Mine was not that thick. I say more like real maple syrup as compared to the maple-flavored pancake syrup which I would consider thick. Anyways hope that helps.
