Growing up in the South, Southern Food has always been a staple in our home. Southern food roots came from Soul Food Cooking. It all goes back to the saying that if you love what you are doing you will put your heart and soul into it. That is what soul food is all about. Kyvan Foods is putting its heart and soul into its foods also, making awesome soul food selections.

History of Kyvan Foods

Kyvan Foods is the brainchild of former NFL tight end Reggie Kelly. Growing up in the South he too shares a passion for Southern Food as I do. Kyvan Foods has many great-looking items to choose from. Whether that be one of their many sauces, seasonings, salsas, or even their jams and jellies. One of their products that piqued our interest was a BBQ sauce they have. It is called Sweet Potato BBQ Sauce. Well, I love sweet potatoes and I thought I had to give this a try. Kyvan Foods and I decided to work together to showcase this product and one other one, their Original Hot Sauce.

Kyvan Sauces We Tried

We were able to try two of Kyvan’s sauces on this occasion. The Kyvan Sweet Potato BBQ sauce, and the Kyvan Orignal Hot Sauce.

Kyvan Sweet Potato BBQ Sauce

Kyvan’s Sweet Potato BBQ Sauce boasts a delightful blend of sweetness and smokiness, with discernible notes of molasses. While it offers a distinctive flavor profile, the presence of sweet potatoes may not be prominent. The sauce has a mild heat, subtly emerging towards the end, reminiscent of a hint of black pepper.

Kyvan Orginal Hot Sauce

The Original Hot sauce we great as well. It reminded me of a mixture of Texas Pete and Tabasco. It had that aged flavor but strong on the vinegar. I would put it in a mild to medium heat range. It has a flavor all on its own but if I had to pin it down between two to give you an idea of what it tastes like the Tabasco/Texas Pete would be a good one.

Conclusion

In conclusion, revisiting both products during dinner proved to be a flavorful experience. The Sweet Potato BBQ Sauce added a delicious touch to my grilled chicken, while the hot sauce elevated the taste of oven-roasted potatoes. I love a good BBQ sauce, corn bread, fried chicken, chili, etc. I think this Yankee has a southern soul.
