We have all heard the tagline, “You can’t eat just one.” Maybe it is true about potato chips. They are very hard to stop eating once you put one away. Well, Frito-Lay has stepped up the game on this one. They have combined the flavor of biscuits and sausage gravy on their potato chips. This is a review of Lay’s Southern Biscuits and Gravy-flavored potato chips.
Why Make Southern Biscuits and Gravy Flavor?
Last year Frito-Lay ran a campaign called “Do Us a Flavor.” This is where you can come up with what you would think would be an awesome new chip flavor.
This was the company’s third year doing this contest (2015), and this year may have produced the best one yet, Southern Biscuits and Gravy flavored chips. While it is yet to be seen if this will be a staple flavor for Lay’s Potato chips, this is a great flavor to try out.
Do they taste like Southern Biscuits and Gravy?
I was very surprised how Lays captured the taste of real Southern Biscuits and Gravy in a potato chip. Being a Southern boy, I happened to love Biscuits and sausage gravy and I make it quite often at my house. I have my very own recipe as well if you would love to try it out. I think Lays did an awesome job capturing the flavor in these chips!
For now, we shall call it a novelty flavor. More than ever companies are always trying to gain an edge on their competition by creating unique, different, and sometimes weird flavor combinations and It looks like Lay’s knows the way to a southern man’s heart.
