Mama’s Farmhouse breakfast takes you back to simpler times
Growing up in the South, a traditional breakfast consisted of grits, eggs, bacon, and some type of bread. Most Southerners would have biscuits as their choice of bread if you asked them. We love our breakfast and consider it to be the most important meal of the day. Eating breakfast, especially Sunday breakfast, is almost like a holiday for Southerners. If asked, most Southerners would tell you that they love their mama or grandmama’s cooking. So it is no surprise to find a restaurant in the hills of the Smoky Mountains honoring their Mother. This is the review of Mama’s Farmhouse.
When you run out, just ask the waiter or waitress for more and like magic, it appears on your table.
Mama’s Farmhouse is a country restaurant serving up breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You pay one price and they have one menu with several things on the menu. They bring a little bit of all of the food on the menu out to the table. We refer to this as family style serving. It is all you can eat but you do not stand in line to get your food. When you run out, just ask the waiter or waitress for more and like magic, it appears on your table. This restaurant is similar to the Dan’l Boone Inn we reviewed last year in Boone, NC. They both are similar in style and the way the food is served.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere here at Mama’s Farmhouse. Everything to how the servers were dressed to the attention to the detail on the outside of the building. The owners put a lot of care and thought to make it resemble an old farm. The restaurant itself is not a franchise, but it is not like your mom and pop kind of restaurant either. The owners of this restaurant own a few other restaurants in the area. Similarly, it should be mentioned that they provided lots of support in terms of food and money for the firefighters that were battling wildfires of Gatlinburg, TN. I am sure they do not want the recognition but thought it was fitting to mention it. I like to support owners like this. It is the American way.
Now on to the food. The food, for the most part, was pretty good. You can you just tell a difference from food that was cooked from a mom and pop type place to a corporate owned restaurant. They start you out with these pinwheels pastries. I must say, they were awesome. I really loved the strawberry butter too that comes out with them. One of the things that I would say was lacking was the grits. You just do not mess up a southerner’s grits. They were a little too thin for my liking and under seasoned. Everything else was pretty much on par. If I had to compare this restaurant to one in the area, I would say it compares to the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant just up the road.
We really enjoyed our breakfast at Mama’s Farmhouse and will be back. Make sure you check out our video from our visit. Please share this post as it gets our content out. Thanks y’all.
